Hon. Lucius D. Battle, RIP

Lucius D. Battle When Saddam Hussein attacked Kuwait in August 1990, President George H. W. Bush called a number of Middle East experts immediately to the White House: among them was a lone Democrat from the Kennedy Administration, Lucius D. Battle. In this era of extreme bipartisan politics, let that fact alone attest to the respect and admiration Ambassador Battle carried among his peers. To those who had the pleasure and honor of knowing him, he was the kindest of people and friend to world cultures and the Arts. America and the Middle East will miss his graceful presence.
